| In 2008, I filled in drowned out spots on July 15 with 0.9 maturity (2.7 is normal here) seed. The buckshot (where those didn't drown out) were harder than the beans planted June 15 at harvest. I had the 30" planter set for 185K, and made two passes hoping to get canopy and to push them tall. They didn't canopy completely and didn't grow tall even with 370K seed per acre at about 15" spacing. I took the beans as a bonus, while the plants did provide some ground cover the last half of the summer, at least those that didn't drown out. The field did 47 bu down from my best of 49 bu a few years before after an aphid attack. I sprayed for aphids, the neighbors didn't. They did in the low 30s.
