Kicking out indicates the detent or flow control on the tractor is not adjusted right, or the bypass needle on the motor is not set right. Or possibly the detent on the tractor is bad.
You can say whatever you want, but it is impossible to move the lever from the rear to float as you described without locking the motor on the way by. The motor is going to die if you do that. You asked the question, we have provided the answer. Nothing more to say here.
