Subject: RE: The real problem - and solution

central - east central Minnesota -

redfarm - 5/11/2010 07:57 These things have been a real challenge this year with the larger soybeans. They claim to handle 2000 seeds/lb. but have seen problems at 2500 per lb. because of shape, size variance, etc. The old drill cups and vac meters have been the best at dropping the big soybeans. Kinzes and the SI belts have had the most trouble. Kinze meters have required some plate switching but have still gotten the job done.

Yep, and everyone seems to blame the planter/device mfg's - I hope all that are experenceing seed size variances is calling the seed company and rasing hell with them for not doing their job and sizing the seed properly. Don't let them give you a song and dance of too much handleing hurts the germ - the gravity table needs to be adjusted a bit more to give a more uniform seed sizes and bag them accordingly. On a positive note, the beans I've planted this year, with the belt meters, seems to be all sized very evenly. I've had dead on planting rates ( I have a scale and belts, and moitor bag weight/seed size).
