I'm not sure I would get too tore up about the calendar, if mud is sticking to the discs its too wet, so you need to wait. We used to try and till the ground lightly, but soon figured if you can till it, you can plant it.

 Did you buy floating row cleaners? We used to run fixed ones and we could never adjust them enough, so we switched to floating and have never looked back. The fixed ones were either plowing up mud or skipping.
