Subject: A Gardner here never turns the soil

North End I-15
He has a multi tine spade that he steps on wiggles it , then moves backwards 3 to 5 " and re-probes the garden . Never turns over the soil . Just loostens it up with his home made fork . . It is made of 5/8" round cold rolled , points sharpened in lathe before welding in to base of tool . Works for him .
Different soils , differnt area . I think he also covers the tined soil with straw.
another friend raises potatoes on top the ground , Covers the seedling shallow , lays down chicken wire , covers with straw . Potatoes plant grows through the straw , tubers are on ground under the straw.

Wife quit gardening vegtables with the exception of a few peas and carrots , chard in her flower beds .
