I usually plant the longest rows. I can think of only two fields that I plant short rows. One is is weird shape that follows a the curve in the road on the longs rows. The other way planted e-w when I got it and I kept doing it that way. The well is on the east side so it is easier to block two rows on the planter for a pivot road instead of going across rows.
