Have done it many times. Better emergence and better early season growth from not having the old corn stalks tying up nitrogen. As far as Organic Matter, don't worry about it. It will not hurt you in future years if you are only going to do it this year. Many guys have corn chopped for silage, sometimes continuously and are not seeing negative effects. Even where they are not applying manure.
You will never find a cheaper and faster tillage tool. I would definately try it. Just be careful, pick the right day, and use common sence.
Make sure you thank your agronomists for thinking outside the box.
