Everybody thinks that cow calf folks have gotten rich the last few years but that is far from the case. The calves I raised this year are the most expensive ever. All inputs are up, all of them and some by a large amount. The corn price is killing the cattle market because it has made feeders cheaper and then more expensive to feed. Just because you arent buying corn to feed cattle does not mean you are not harmed by it. Hay is getting more expensive to grow every year. When all inputs are rising and the end product is going down it is hard to win. You row croppers know about this. As far as the DDGs they will help the big feeders which in turn may help the price of feeders but I am skeptical about all of that. They have talked for a long time about how sweet it will be for livestock. I will have to see it to believe it. I think the big boys will suck it up and you can buy it from them at a nice profit.
