Thompsontown, Pennsylvania
Looking to follow small grains with an n-fixing cover crop again this year. The issue im running into is i take a second forage crop off this ground as well. This year planted 90 pounds forage oats with 10 pounds of crimson clover with mixed results. Some fields have the clover but is very small. Others have nothing. Planted about 15th of August. Cut at about 4 to 4.5 inch stubble height on november 8th....this year looking to cut back to 75 or 80 pounds oats and add tillage radishes....my question is....should i try a different clover this year or try austrian winter peas? Will also be trying to plant earlier....wet weather delayed my straw harvest this year....maybe end of july or first of august....TIA Kyle
