| IF you have very detailed and accurate zones, the soil test data will be every bit as good as a grid sampling, with alot less cost. This past spring I zoned a field and soil sampled the field based on the soil zones (5 zones). The next day I created a 2.4 acres grid map and sampled 48 grid points. As I stated earlier an accurate soil zone map will give you very good soil test data.
In my part of the world P is very terrain dependent. The highest P levels will be found on the lower landscape positions, with the lowest P levels will be found on the highest parts of the landscape. I have always considered the nonmobile soil nutrients, especially P, to be a very good indicator of the accuracy of the zones. | |
