Subject: Re: working soybean stubble in the fall

We grow notill soybeans but after soybeans we will apply lime where needed and work the field with a disc ripper. I know I will get some comments against this but in our area it is the best time if any to deep till and it works really great for incorporating lime in dry soil. Our soil is too cold in spring in a normal year so leaving the soybean stubble untouched is not an option unless you don't mind planting corn two weeks later and yield loss is too great for me. I also have to say my field rotation is worked so corn stubble is beside a ripped field to hold back snow and I don't see anymore soil erosion(or not visible) compared to 20 years ago when everything got the moldboard plow.
