Subject: RE: working soybean stubble in the fall

Macon, IL
I am not sure there is 1 correct answer for all situations. I usually get in trouble when I post my thoughts or what works for me, so I will refrain.

You will get answers saying anyone not ripping is a moron and giving up 20 bushel per acre. Then you will get another answer saying anyone ripping is a moron wasting fuel and hurting their yeilds. Both have proven it to themseleves and are not going to do anything different no matter what.

Personally I think each farm is different, and what works for one may not work for another. Figure all the factors-you going to need a larger tractor to deep rip?-some may not have enough time-others have more than enough time.

Why not take 1 year and figure out what works best for you on your fields in your situation. Take 1 field and split it and try disking some, ripping some, spring fc on some. If you don't own a ripper maybe you can get your neighbor do do a few acres for you.

Then you will know what works for you-and you can confidently tell anyone to take a hike who pretends to know what works best on your ground.
