| B73 and MO17 are publicly developed inbreds from the 60's... B73 was the female and MO17 was the male parents in making a hybrid that was very widely planted 115 day hybrid through the mid-70's to early 80's. (I've heard the hybrid referred to as SX19 also, but I'm not sure of the origin of that terminology.) It was sold under many brands... Golden Harvest 2500, Dekalb 72aa, I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that every seed company had a version of it. Pioneer held out for quite awhile, but I believe they came out with something that was a little different from most, but was obviously somewhat similar. It was a big step forward in yield and, like most big yielders, was a little short on agronomics. | |
