Southern Ontario | hey
In this environment, SW Ontario-just east of Detroit, Michigan - 42 latitude, if we do not kill the volunteer wheat in the fall, cutworm adults tend to fly in early spring. They seem to prefer to lay eggs in the fields with the volunteer wheat or other green winter annuals. After they lay eggs, the cutworms will be populating that field and put the seedling corn crop at risk. If we kill the volunteer wheat in the fall the cutworms seem to leave the field alone. Just our experience, in our climate.
