Look for the 'hiking & outdoors' type. I got a Garmin, works pretty well. The streets type don't have the area calculations you need. Or at least, read carefully on the box that the one you are getting does area calculations.

The Legend and on up series all are pretty good. Some have better antennea, some have better navigations, some have better mapping. Kinda look through them & then throw a dart at one. :) I think I ened up with a Summit because that was on sale.

If you have questions, the geeks at Best Buy didn't really have a clue on the outdoors type; they wanted to sell me one of the street mapping ones. I had much better luck at a hunting type store, where they knew the models I was talking about.
