West Michigan | Good advise to check your bins and check them often. Also not trying to be a wise guy but flat bottom bins are not for wet corn storage. You need to cone it out with dry corn if you have any chance of it working. Guessing past years you have done this and it has worked. This corn is much wetter than normal I am sure. Also need to consider the outside air temp. Not sure of IA temps but here we have been way below normal plus it is way later in the yer with shorter days. 70 air temp blowing on 18-20% corn may work in a flat bin but 40-50 air temp on 20+% is not a good plan. We have had years where we average 32% across the farm and this year may be another. You guys in the corn belt are on a steep learning curve. Like you said check them bins often so the steep learing curve doesn't cost you a fortune (maybe some extra shoveling). | |
