I agree that it is very important to research these types of issues first because they are never simple and there are always more factors to consider when deciding solutions than any one person can think of.

I don’t agree that this isn’t somewhat related to the topic though. There is a recent trend to prevent open discussion on certain topics rather than actually discuss findings and ideas in both sides of the issues. This has created an environment where those promoting this type of censorship are actually the ones guilty of not researching these types of topics. No one who refuses to listen to other points of view are truly well informed. On a variety of subjects sometimes they will be right, sometimes they will be wrong, and sometimes both sides will be partially correct.

This censorship of what can be discussed has created a very deep distrust of those preventing dialogue, which very much includes the government in the last several years. The best way to earn that trust is to allow open debates about issues.

When discussion isn’t allowed, it doesn’t mean the side doing the censorship is correct, it means they don’t want to acknowledge research that might prove them wrong.
