Around here, the "established XXXX" signs usually long-predate the current family ownership. Whoever is putting up the sign just searches through historical records, and finds the earliest date they can find for a house, land-ownership, or anything. It doesn't have to be the current house, or the current family ownership. It's entirely a matter of boasting that 'something' here dates back to 1805, or whenever. I really do not think that is how you define a muti generation farm . !I own a farm that my family dates back to immigrating from Germany 1732 and I farm with Son and Grandson 9th 10th and 11th . Not bragging but I am quick to give my forefathers credit they deserve . I can document each family back to the begining . Answer to original question regardles how many farm steads it branches out to a generation os a generation mark the starting point and count each generation until you get to yur self .
