Madison Co. Virginia | Around here, the "established XXXX" signs usually long-predate the current family ownership. Whoever is putting up the sign just searches through historical records, and finds the earliest date they can find for a house, land-ownership, or anything. It doesn't have to be the current house, or the current family ownership. It's entirely a matter of boasting that 'something' here dates back to 1805, or whenever. | |
