Subject: RE: Row Crop Cultivator Education

Nw Iowa
The organic guys in our area use 856’s because a 3 shank will clean up a field better and a lot of different configurations available. . Single sweeps are great but use dirt to cover with speed and sometimes those weeds will come back. A lot of good single sweep cultivators out there but to really clean up a field you will need cut away discs. Single sweeps handle trash much better. CIH makes a regular gang and a extended gang cultivator which gives more clearance, usually on 1830 cultivators but still a option on them. B&H also makes a good single sweep cultivator with cut aways as a option. All modern cultivators get pretty heavy because units pretty good pull. So I guess I would look at the bar and make sure it isn’t ushaped or droop from use. Some 16 rows use a double bar on main frame which is good so be careful to eye up bar So really depends upon what you want to do.
