Subject: RE: Row Crop Cultivator Education

We have a 16x30" IH 183 5 shank danish tine & a JD 845 8x30" 5 shank danish tine row crop cultivators. Dont cultivated as much as we use to but still do a little every yer. Weve owned a couple other 183s over the years, a IH vibra tine row crop & grew up on the old style cultivators of the .50s & '60s. I see sevral bad mouth the 183 cultivators but for our soil types they do a good job. When every one was cultivating crops they were the standard in this area, even the JD boys ran then. I personally prefer the 5 shank danish tines as the 3 shanks didn't remove the weeds the 5 shanks do unless you ran larger shovels then they seemed to throw more dirt & cover small crops. Never had an issue with them plugging & the danish tines seemed to penetrate hard ground better than the old style or vibra tines. Only knew of one of the single sweep style cultivators in this area, believe it was an orthoman but its been a few years.
