Wellington, MO
Not sure it it’s related but I noticed that University Extension is putting on a Beef feedlot school in Trenton this week. Gonna teach how to finish cattle out in Missouri again.
We gave up finishing (other than 10-15 butcher beef) and went to selling feeders when trucking started taking what profit there was. Last year we finished a pen of heifers that wouldn’t fit a load and sold them to Missouri Prime Beef. Did ok there. Got two more pens on feed now. Works good for us smaller producers. Trucking doesn’t eat it up and you can negotiate with them. However, it does seem like an oxymoron to be selling “Missouri” grown/fed cattle to a company owned by some Kansas folks. But what ever works.
