God's Country (N.C. Ia)
Upper Iowa Beef in Lime Springs. To answer Johnny’s question, I’m not really sure what market they’re processing for other than CAB. The original reason it was built was a little more geared toward marketing the beef as Iowa fed with traceability back to those farms if I remember correctly. (Somebody jump in and correct me if I’m wrong.) Like a lot of smaller plants it was built with local farmers’ money, and after 6 months of operation, was closed down due to inadequate freezer space, and lack of funding to remedy the issue. I was told the new owners have at least one other plant in Nebraska, but I’m really not sure. At any rate, it turned out to be a bust for the original investors. Since being operated under the new ownership, they have expanded capacity to 300/hd/day.
