God's Country (N.C. Ia) | Upper Iowa Beef in Lime Springs. To answer Johnny’s question, I’m not really sure what market they’re processing for other than CAB. The original reason it was built was a little more geared toward marketing the beef as Iowa fed with traceability back to those farms if I remember correctly. (Somebody jump in and correct me if I’m wrong.) Like a lot of smaller plants it was built with local farmers’ money, and after 6 months of operation, was closed down due to inadequate freezer space, and lack of funding to remedy the issue. I was told the new owners have at least one other plant in Nebraska, but I’m really not sure. At any rate, it turned out to be a bust for the original investors. Since being operated under the new ownership, they have expanded capacity to 300/hd/day. | |
