| Usually a tractor uses what's called a VS pump where the main throttle shaft is locked open and the fuel is controlled by another component that hangs off the back of the pump. Generally the pumps have completely different housings so you can't just stick the parts on to make it a VS. I'm looking at taking my old pump to cummins or where ever to get it set to my new engine's specs so I can keep the VS function. However, I have run a cat 3208T out of truck in a steiger wildcat with decent results and I think you could set it up in your tractor as is and see how it runs and do the pump change later (that's what I plan to do). If you swapping the same engine you can swap turbo, intercooler, pump and injectors from your old engine to the new and that way guarantee you have it set up right.
