The Internet | Hybrids, aren't EV's though. The point of a hybrid, is to harness the energy that's otherwise wasted as heat under braking, and put it in a battery for propulsion. An EV will also harness the energy wasted under braking. On another forum I was on, there was an engineer from an OEM auto manufacturer who said ICE engines in cars were finished. He did some fag packet calculations based on battery and electric motor efficiency, the UK electrical grid, transmission losses and how the UK electrical supply is generated, and his calculations showed that and electric powered car charged of the current UK national grid would have the same CO2 output as a diesel car doing 200mpg. He also pointed out, that as the national grid gets cleaned up, the car fleet does too, by default. You have other problems in the USA with electricity supply, that looks to me to be a result of under-investment and the fragmented nature of it. |
