. | The previous owner had a drinking problem, his wife left him, and I think he died within a year or two of the auction. At that time it was probably 150 acre farm. There was a big old saw mill on the property that stayed. I don't know how long milk cows had been gone because the Bob Heller referred to in the auction bill put up most of the buildings and had a pretty nice place. I think I heard all he had in the barn were chickens.
So the auction was in October and at the time FIL was renting a farm 24 miles away. Machinery got hauled up by tractor-in November. Story I heard was one of the new neighbors here volunteered his Farmall M and helped hauled stuff up here. He was a old widower fella who would wear his clothes till they practically rotted off, but willing to help out. They said he smoked a big old cigar to keep his nose warm on the drive! | |
