Wisconsin | One strategy that seems to work much better than average for old farm house remodels, is to add a new wing with kitchen and bathroom. Then make the old part of the house living room, bedrooms, etc. So much of the money goes into the kitchen and bathroom, might as well start with a clean slate. The bedrooms are more about cheap square footage, and that's what the old house is good for. It's a waste to gut an old kitchen or bath, fix all the old crap, put all the money and wasted effort into cramming a new kitchen into a still too small space that's never level, plumb or square. At least sacrifice a bedroom for a bath and closet, rather than putting it back in the same place that was never big enough. | |
