If I tried that on my lawn I'd have a strip of dandelions and crabgrass the next year. Our garden is mostly potatoes, green beans, tomatoes. We till and plant. When plants are up hoe out any weeds, lay out newspaper and cover with 3 or 4 inches of grass clippings. Newspaper makes a good weed barrier that lasts all summer.
