Subject: RE: Feeding lambs

Central Illinois
I have been trying to figure on finishing some as well. It Is really tough to get a feel for the market though. It seems like they don’t want them heavy enough to be able to make a finishing program work very well. When looking back at the average difference between feeder lamb (I considered a 50-60#) and market lamb (I considered 130#) price it seems like market lambs averaged about .40 less per pound than feeder lambs, which looks like it would work. But If looking through sale reports the difference looks a lot bigger. I have been hoping to find something other than calves that would pencil so I could quit being such a burden to the packers with my cattle!
