We raise a lot of lambs here. We do raise mainly our own but we do buy some. I would say your way way way better off buying ewes and rasing your own. The margin is so much better. And STAY AWAY from anything that’s a pellet and don’t feed alfalfa. Those are about your most expensive feeds. Keeping your feed cost down is what will save you. We feed silage in every single ration. Think our feeder lamb “grower” ration is something like 50% silage, alittle DDG, loose soyhulls, ground feild beans and cracked corn. Really a cheap ration. And they grow out well.


Dunno about not using alfalfa.
Sure it isn't cheap but when your lamb drop is through the roof - - - - - well that's when you're making the $$$$$$$$$$$.

So I use alfalfa.
