There are several turbine pumps in reuse pits up here like you have. We only use them when the pit fills up after a big rain for flood control. so we don't get the hours like yours does. Our intake is about 3-5ft off the bottom to prevent silt and debris from coming off the bottom. Then every few years dig around the inlet to remove the sediment.
