I also don't think a riverscreen is going to get you much in this situation. You are limited by the settling time/capacity of your pit, and its clearly not big enough. Least expensive pump to handle the silt and do the job would be an end suction centrifugal. Don't need foot valve, put a check valve right up at the pump. With a permanent setup, suction pipe can be welded one-piece, flange connection to check valve then flange to pump. Done correctly it won't leak air and lose prime. I'll attach pic of suction check valve assembly. Suction pipe ready to go in river, no foot valve in it.
