SW Ohio | "best lathe" is akin to best chore tractor, some would be fine with a Farmall M or a 4020 and others wouldn't be happy with anything less than a 6120R. I started out with a 1940's era Logan 200 that is clapped out in the chuck area but I still do all the small stuff with it, matter of fact am putting a new four jaw on it now. Also got a 1908 LeBlond that weights 6500# and have not even cleaned it up much but we still do bigger work on it. Have less than $1500 in both of them together but getting close to that in tooling. I would be in the market for a 10x30 that is in great shape and could do SAE and metric threads and possibly DRO but that is more of a want than a need.
