mid Illinois | The old lathes can be some of the best quality, but if I’m buying another lathe, it’s going to have at least a 3” hole thru the headstock. Most older lathes have tiny holes there, so I have no interest in them. We run clausing lathes, and they are middle of the road, and copied by lots of Chinese and Korean companies. Parts for clausings are ridiculously expensive though. I’d like to buy one of the Polish made lathes, but probably end up with a 17” x 60” clausing since they are much easier to find. They have forward and reverse clutches, unlike the Asian lathes that it’s just an electrical switch turning the motor on, off, or reversing. | |
