Plants will pay what it takes to buy enough head to keep their lines full.

From what I see, folks are willing to truck fats about anywhere if the price is higher enough to cover the trucking.

It would be nice if the plant emphasized purchasing local cattle but I don't see how they could monitor that. I've seen cattle trucked a long ways then sold as presumably "local" cattle.
