Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska
It will really depend on our health. I like what our neighbors are doing with their parents. They hire a person to come to their home and fix a meal, wash clothes, and take care of any other needs for a few hours every day. But you have to be fairly healthy to be able to do that.
I met a lady on a plane once that was coming back from Mexico after visiting her father. Her and her brother had bought a house on the coast and hired a woman from Africa to live and take care of him. He had dementia. The house was cheap and it cost them $600/month to hire the woman to live there. If I had severe enough dementia I think I would like that idea. I wouldn’t know where I was or who saw me anyway. And I would hate to be a burden on my family. I tell them that is an option.
I like what was posted above about trying to stay healthy now so we can take care of ourselves longer.
