Subject: remedial math

Pittsburg, Kansas

My daughter struggled with math in high school.  We tried to get the counselor to let her take "remedial" math. You know, the math class for the dumb kids where they actually teach practical things like how to balance a checkbook and other practical math applications for an ordinary person. Nope. They wouldn't do it. She was too smart for the dumb class. Yet the dumb class would have done her a world of good compared to the classes she was forced to take that she did poorly in.

That has been half a lifetime ago. I'm sure the schools are much better now.*****
