Start with your insurance company as they cover what was lost. Do of course tell them what happened about the grinding from the contractor. Those two insurance carriers will sort it out in something called subrogation. Your issue is to be made whole by the coverage you have. Then your insurance company will pursue a claim against the contractors insurance carrier. You will have nothing to do with that.

Jim Yup, dont even bring it up to him. The bigger issue is proving you had what you say you had. It’s always a good idea to once in awhile walk around and record your belongs. For future reference, as you’re about to find out unfortunately. Report back how things turned out.
