My first experience with driving a combine was a Gleaner E. I think the model K was about the same size as the model E but was a later model. I know it had a 2 row corn head and not sure but probably a 10' grain head. The local BTO had a Gleaner C which was a big combine at that time.
We custom harvest for several retired dairy farmers. The one farmer is around 80, and he still has a Gleaner E model. At least I'm thinking its an E. It's definitely a gasser, and he has a three row narrow head for it. (30 in.) 10 ft grain head. I've never seen him run the grain head, but he'll usually take the headlands off a field or two of corn just to keep it in running condition. I don't think the unloading auger is as big as the grain tank loading auger on our 9660! And a 9660 is a baby combine for some farms! |
