Subject: RE: Ride in the desert

Pittsburg, Kansas
That is a Polaris General that we bought and put about 5 hours on it before heading to Arizona. Most of the machines down here are RZR's in the Polaris brand. The General is kind of half way between a Ranger and a RZR. It does not have as good of suspension as the newest RZR's but is adequate. Might have as good of suspension as some of the older RZR's. I know Ed and Dave in their RZR's can go considerably faster on rough roads than me for a given amount of shaking in the cab. I think on a rough trail where they can go 30 about 20 would give the same ride for me. I have been kind of watching them and trying to compare.

I think for Carolynn and my purposes the General works pretty good. We are not performance orientated, more of a leisurely stroll kind of people. In many respects other than the suspension difference there is not much difference. We don't have any trouble with clearance or climbing or any of that. Just not as much speed on rough surfaces. We may try some off roading in Arkansas and other states and I think the General will we well suited for some of that. For the desert trails the RZR's seem to be the cats meow.

The engine and transmission was used to drag ore out of a mine. It is kind of a unique engine that I thought about posting a bunch of pictures to see if anyone can identify what engine it is. May do that soon. It has "for sale" and a phone number written on if if you are interested......$3,000. :-)
