Valley, NE | So i have a traeger, and i love/hate it. It is basically an oven that smokes, and i cook burgers, hotdogs, pork buts, beer-butt chickens, beans, pizza, you name it, if it can be put in an oven, you can cook it on a pellet grill. The constant cleaning and maintenance is what i hate about it. it requires a pretty steady cleaning after every 3-4 uses, which is a pain. the dust from the pellets and the grease build up causes it to be a fire hazard, if you don't clean it regularly. I have also found out my traeger doesnt like cheap pellets and i only use traeger brand pellets, too many headaches with temp control and over feeding with cheap pellets, in my machine. I have heard others get along fine.
I love the fact that i can smoke food, turn it on and walk away. Its great when i have a crew coming to work cattle, I'll throw a bunch of something on early in the morning and put it on low and slow then by noon, crank it up to finish it off. I have heard good things about the Yoder smoker, but they come with a price tag too. At the end of the day im pretty sure all the under $1000 smokers are just like pickups, they are all about the same, except for a few bells and whistles, and a brand badge, they all get from point A to point B, and they all crap out about the same miles. you'll love the convenience of cooking with one. here i have my bacon-medusa wig beer but chickens, and a pork butt, german sausage, and kielbasa-to mix in the beans, and my homemade from scratch beans.
