Northeast Iowa | Wife doesn't have the virus so far.
At least 3 of her co-workers in her unit have quit this week.
They were already short-staffed, but now this could be really painful for the floor. I think they usually have 25 medical staff hired to the floor for 24/7 care.
It sounds like hazard pay is out of the question at this time. The kwik stars and hyvees are providing their employees with increased pay during the pandemic: maybe it'll catch on at her hospital.
Hospital is providing the paper surgical masks to go to infectious rooms, but not the N95 respirators that are in short supply. Respiratory nurses and doctors are feuding about how its unacceptable. Changes will be made as the good masks are more available, I'm sure.
Situation isn't too dire here as far as cases go, and all elective surgeries and operations have been cancelled. Hospital patients are on the low end for now in preparation, so being short-staffed isn't too bad at this moment. Wife has the whole next week off work as previously scheduled, but we wont be taking a vacation.
Life is good enough, thanks everyone for your replies. | |
