| I've lost track of the vid, but watched on yesterday on the dire situation in the Lombardy region. The ER is now an ICU extension. People wearing these bubbles on their heads to try to boost the FiO2, fraction of inspired oxygen, because their lungs cannot transfer the available oxygen from the lungs to the bloodstream because of the interstitial pneumonia. They were gasping. Awful. Just awful.
That's going to be the problem. Even WITH ventilators, patients may not survive because the lungs are so damaged d/t the pneumonia that they may not improve even with mechanical ventilation. | |
