More or less you are right. The 98xx series used/uses the JD 12.5L/13.5L engine vs. the 8.1 or 9L in the two smaller models. The big unloader is standard I think on the larger ones but optional down through the 6 and 7. Otherwise, the 9870 has a larger, extended pre-chaffer that gives the 9870 a bump in the cleaning area numbers compared to a 6 or 7 on a spec sheet. Think of the old 3 step cascade cleaning system from a Massey Ferguson 850 as a basic arrangement. It doesn't add any real capacity when you're pushing the machine in high yielding corn, but can help to limit corn from flowing back into the cleaning fan like on the smaller models or the 9860.
