If you are having a lot of calving issues in April with death loss or sick calves I say you might sell more total pounds of cattle even if they are 1 month earlier. It’s amazing how stunted some cattle get if they had a real rough spell of sickness early in life.
This might be the biggest yet unknown profit difference. Since sending our bulls to efficiency testing this has been the most eye-opening. Even after a calf looks "healed" we are seeing double the feed cost and the carcass data is bottom every time. I didn't think something that happened at birth would affect a calf at yearling to two year old but studies are proving different. |
