Frytown, Iowa | They are tight margins. Maybe 10-20 per pig on 50 pigs is nothing for the work and repairs.
But in a 2400 head hog barn finishing 4800 pigs a year its a nice annual income however very risky for a young farmer and could have him broke in a year if he finds someone to back him
I’d say the rent on the barn if it was free would be gobbled up in the extra cost of the weaner due to small size of group
But if there’s a will there will be a way! Perhaps encourage him on the farrowing side for starting out.
