Middlesex County, Ontario | I play with them on a regular basis. Its a fun hobby. I've made very few things into a real use-able project, I usually just play and break it back down once the urge has settled. Some people enjoy watching a movie for a few hours, I enjoy working on an arduino or code project for a few hours. Build little robots to follow a line of tape on the ground or whatever. Last year I put a paintball gun on a 4 wheel drive platform and made everything remote control through an arduino; 4 princess auto 12v gearboxes, couple H bridges for speed control, servo on the trigger, plywood base, all stuff I had "in stock." I wrote the code one evening ahead of time and then just kind of cobbled all the hardware together in an afternoon. Just looking at my own pictures, I used an Arduino Pro Mini, they run about $2.49 on ebay, but you need an ftdi to program them.
I also took a bunch of relevant courses while in school for engineering. Courses covering microcontrollers, embedded systems, sensors and actuators, various control systems courses, couple c++ classes, etc.
I've been wanting to make an auto boom height system for awhile but keep putting it off.
Every once in awhile I'll go on eBay and set it to buy it now with free shipping, buy some Arduino stuff and months later it comes in. Add it to the kit. Always buy spares!
