Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | I also remember that the dealer who mentioned this shortcut cal method to me said that the presenter indicated that one should NOT use the scale on a grain cart since they are known to be so inaccurate. For years, the suggestion was to use smaller cal loads rather than a complete truck load. The idea was that it was more likely that the combine could run within a consistent flow range with a smaller cal load.
Concerning the idea that the shortcut method that 2 cal loads would be sufficient if the field is consistent. It's hard to argue with that but if one's fields were extremely consistent, a yield monitor might not be needed at all.
