Amherst WI | Back in the good old days before ADM bought the local elevator and started to pour money into it I had a disageement with the scale lady.
I had two wagons behind my pickup, they where both partial loads from seperate farms that I had seperate for insuarnace. Back then the lines were 2-8 hours long. I think I spent about 4 hours in line that day.
I pulled on the scale with the truck and first wagon to explain what I was doing. I wanted to weigh the truck and wagon , pull a sample and then I'd move ahead with the next wagon on the scale then she could pull another sample. The scale lady who was about as delightful as a alligator with a unrinary track infection was running the scale. She wasn't convinced that this was an accurate way the weigh. She told me I'd have to get into line to weigh the second wagon. I wasn't going to wait another 4 hours to dump 125 bushels so finally after fighting with her about it for about 3 mintues I just gave up.
Even with all the improvments they made to that place since then that has cost millions of dollars canning her was the best investment they made. If I had 1/100th of the business she drove away from that place I'd be rich. | |
