| My dad liked to tell the story of a neighbor, called Spitz, who always claimed to have the best yields. No matter what your yield was, his was a little better. One summer during wheat harvest the rest of the neighbors decided to put this to the test.
While waiting in line the first guy goes up to him and says "pretty good wheat this year, I think mine will make 30" (this was a long time ago).
Spitz says,, Yeah pretty good, mines making about 33."
Second guy goes up to him and says, "good wheat this year, mine is gonna make 35." Spitz says, "yeah it's pretty good, mine will make about 38."
Third guy goes up and says " really good wheat this year, looks like mine will hit 40." Spitz says "yeah real good mine will make 42."
I think they had him over 50 bu/ac by the time they were through. Dad always laughed and laughed every time he told that story. Wish I could hear it again. | |
